Money No Object As Premier League Clubs Break Summer Transfer Window Spending Record

Record amounts of money have been spent during the Summer 2017 transfer window and there are still two days left! After two months of wheeling and dealing, the window closes at 11pm this Thursday (31st).

The Premier League clubs have spent a record £1.17 billion so far with the previous record of £1.165bn set last summer. The final week of last summer's window saw Premier League clubs spend around £300m so there will be further spend to come.

Twelve clubs have broken their transfer record since the end of last season including:

  • Liverpool - £39m spent on Mohamed Salah
  • Arsenal - £50m spent on Alexandre Lacazette
  • Chelsea, Spurs and Everton – with serious spending on Alvaro Morata, Davinson Sanchez and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Other major summer buys have included Manchester United's £75m move for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, while Manchester City have spent £221.5m on reinforcements, £54m of that on Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker.
